| Raleigh, NC's Devour were born from the ashes of Cross Laws, but rather than simply
picking up where that band left off, the remaining members expanded to a 5-piece and
followed the long southern tradition of adding traces of metal into their hardcore. What

of the mid-80s trend of hardcore bands 'going metal;' think Corrosion of Conformity's

makes sense. Awareness of your own mortality dictates your perspective, expression
is gained in experience, and these guys have stories to tell. Boy, do they have stories
to tell... A classic.

| The debut EP from Worcester, MA's Last Lights is a very promising slab of fast hardcore
straight out of the playbook drafted by Suicide File, Panic and American Nightmare's
Background Music. This is pretty much a 10-or-so-minute release of unrelenting intensity.
Remember how Background Music blew you away with how straightforward and aggressive
the band was, yet how good the songs were? Yeah, it's sort of like that, though Last Lights
haven't quite attained that level of songwriting. Then again, has anyone since? Well, yeah.
But not many.
The AN cues are ever-present on 'Everybody's Working for the Weak End,' while its slightly
more original followup, 'U.S. Out of New England,' is spit forth in a brief blast. The flipside
rages well enough too, with wailing guitar solos on 'The Dream Homes of Insomniacs,' a
near-literal middle finger to the dreams of suburban middle class inhabitants.
Last Lights, keep at it. They aren't writing the most insanely brilliant songs quite yet, but
it's pretty blistering and surprisingly varied in the vocal department.

| Lone Wolf was founded in September of 2006 by Bo Thomson (Snake Eyes, ex-

(Throwdown) and Martin Stewart (Terror, Donnybrook). In june of 2007, they

that makes me wish these guys would be on Assault Records.
Unique and haunting melodies, and the willingness to experiment results in songs full
of epic atmospheres and general intensity, especially with frontman Chris Vandeviver's
harrowingly harsh, gravelly howl so demonic now that it invokes a black metal vibe.
Brooding and infused with an oddly melancholic cool, it's clear Sakes Alive!! are not
mere followers or imitators but the originators of a creatively aggressive sound that'll
pull in innocent bystanders to their intense rush of blistering and calloused punk rock.
I'm very impressed and can't wait to hear more. Highly recommended!
